Yoyo Ceramics
Yoyo Ceramics designer Helen Johannessen took a real interest in clay in 1987 when she was just 16 years old. From a pottery evening class, the journey to exploit this material in a thoughtful and technical way eventually led to the creation of her acclaimed range ‘Is that Plastic?’
The collection was launched at 100% Design in 2003 where she met Thorsten. Building on the business for 5 years, in 2008 it was time for them to collaborate with this range, both having the same ethos and attitude towards design – buy less and buy better.
Helen has worked as a mould and model maker in the ceramics industry since 1995, with 2 years in the film industry. This time heavily influenced her style ‘to make things look like something else’ in a clever yet useful way.
She is also a lecturer, employed since 1999 at various Universities in 3-D Design and Creative Thinking in Business.
